Follow the Breadcrumbs Through the Woods

Do you remember the fairy tales your Nana or Mum read to you when you were little? How the girl in the story was lost in the scary woods but a good fairy told her to follow the breadcrumbs to find the way?
Well – maybe I forgot the details, but the message of the story is still true. The magic fairy is our intuition. The breadcrumbs are little things that catch our attention and make us go: ‘I want to know more!’
At university, I was passionate to write about socially committed young Indonesian contemporary artists without putting them in danger of prison - or worse. I began my M.A. thesis in Indonesian and Visual Arts at the Flinders University of South Australia. I was awarded a grant from the Asian Studies Council of Australia to live for 12 months in Indonesia for the research. That year took a huge toll on my physical and mental health. When I was well again, I moved to Perth to find academic work.
I came up with nothing.
Desperate for a job to pay rent and support my teenage son I looked in the community newspaper. Nothing caught my eye but a picture of a soaring eagle, with the words:
‘On Wings of Healing. When we fly on wings of healing, we can do anything!’ It was for Reiki classes, and I was filled with an unstoppable urge to meet the Reiki Master, Leonie Faye, and learn Reiki.
That was my breadcrumbs path. Within a year I had been attuned to Reiki First and Second Degree and was working as a Reiki practitioner. In April 1998 I completed my Reiki Master training with Leonie, and began teaching my own students. Moving away from the Academic world opened up other opportunities – to focus more on my creativity – painting and writing fiction. I also studied Remedial Massage and Myotherapy at the Telek Academy, and Shamanic Practitioner and Advanced Shamanic Training with Dr Rafael Locke.
In 2002, I completed Reiki Master/Sensei training in Japanese Traditional Reiki with Lawrence Ellyard. Both teachers gave me my lineage connecting my Reiki attunements through the Reiki Masters all the way back to the founder, Dr Mikao Usui, assuring me of the authenticity of the Reiki I teach.
My Reiki journey was first and foremost about healing myself, which taught me how powerful yet gentle Reiki is. Working with Reiki heals us on all levels. We become healthier, stronger, more intuitive, more courageous to trust our own ‘breadcrumb path’ through this challenging world. I’ve been blessed to learn so much as a Reiki practitioner and teacher, and feel privileged to attune my students to Reiki, empowering them on their own healing path. I only hold in-person classes, as attunements by distance are not permanent. Classes are small, with lots of experience of giving and receiving Reiki.
Reiki I gives you the gift of healing yourself, family, friends, pets and clients. Reiki II gives you added Reiki healing power to send distant healing, or hands on healing of past events, the wounded inner child, even past life traumas as well as setting up positive outcomes into the future. Reiki supports all other forms of healing, medical or alternative, and is safe and non-invasive.
For those who feel drawn to teaching Reiki, my Master training is more like an apprenticeship that includes not just the attunement, but learning to teach Reiki and hold classes as a professional Reiki Master Teacher.
Reiki will open up your true path in life, releasing old patterns to embark on the journey of following the path of your heart. My work as Psychic Tarot reader came in at the same time as Reiki. My teacher Leonie told me ‘You’re psychic!’. At first in denial, I soon accepted that the clairvoyant visions I saw as a child were real, not ‘just a dream’ as I was told then. I’ve since worked in Expos, Mind Body Spirit Festivals and with private clients.
Working with Reiki teaches us if we prepare for opportunity, miracles can happen, in ways we could never imagine. The timing may be not what we expect. Sometimes you hear people say, ‘Oh, I’m not lucky.’ It’s not rocket science. It’s being prepared, and following the breadcrumbs.
